There are 2 dentists in every building on my street.

I keep on hearing this everyday.

So what is to be done?

Here are my few thoughts.

To begin with take a real hard look at all aspects of your practice. For this you will require the help of an experienced mentor. Final out areas where you are deficient in. Once a few of them are identified start working on them. One very important area is communication skills.

Develop good communication skills: Communication is very important in a dental practice. Without good communication your practice with shrivel & stagnate. For effective communication you need to understand your audience, yourself, the medium & the message. The mediums which a dental practice can use to disseminate information are pamphlets, recall & reminder letters, websites etc. You have to be creative. What may work for one dentist & one practice will not work for somebody else. A help of a practice couch /mentor will be required to plan, design & implement your communications.

Communication has to designed keeping in mind the socio-economic status of the target audience, the age, the overall demographics etc.

Furthermore it has to evolve continuously. Your website has to be updated continuously. Your pamphlets must be well designed & must stand out.

Take a regular feedback from everybody. Remember 90 % of marketing does not work. The trick is to know which 10 % works.
